The fastest way to make a room feel expensive is to stop lighting it from one spot.
A single bright light in the middle of the ceiling flattens a room. Everything is lit the same, so nothing stands out. The fix is layers.
Start with soft ambient light for the whole room, usually from cove lighting or a few recessed fittings. Add task light where work happens, over the kitchen counter, beside the bed, at the study. Then add accent light to lift one feature, a stone wall, a piece of art, a tall plant.
Put these layers on separate switches or a dimmer. The same room can then be bright for a family lunch and quiet for an evening with two lamps on. That control, more than any single fixture, is what reads as luxury.
